The event’s second edition will take place from January 12 to 14, 2024.
Torres del Paine, January 4, 2024.- The calafate is one of the most representative shrubs of the Patagonian flora. Its presence not only extends across much of the region’s landscapes, but its use has expanded to various recipes and preparations. That’s why the 2024 Calafate Fest, in its second edition, aims to once again, “increase its commercial value and enhance its research to create business opportunities in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic region.”
Among the activities of this exhibition will be talks by various experts in gastronomy and mixology, such as the French Chef, Yann Yvin and the Head Bartender of Las Torres Patagonia, Federico Gil.
During his presentation, the Uruguayan-born bartender will deliver a unique experience that blends high-end mixology with sustainability and the indigenous flavors of Patagonia. Federico Gil will guide attendees through the creation of exclusive cocktails using calafate as the main ingredient, along with medicinal plants, berries, and local spirits.
The day’s itinerary guided by Federico Gil will include an educational talk titled, “The Art of Sustainable Mixology,” where he will take the opportunity to recount the creation story of some of his most famous drinks, such as the Calafate Breeze, the Patagonian Fire, and the Legend of the Calafate.
Next, the mastermind behind the preparations at Las Torres Patagonia’s Bar Pionero will explain how mixology can contribute to a more sustainable world, providing details of his preparations in line with environmental care, both in their production and presentation.
Finally, the activity guided by Federico Gil will open up space for audience questions before concluding with a tasting of the elaborations discussed during the presentation.
Another highlight of this event will be the Fusion Patagonia tournament, which brings together mixology and cuisine, with various representatives from Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine participating. The Hotel Las Torres team will be composed of Eduardo Callejas, José Alvarado, Matías Vásquez, and José Castillo.
This is the only festival harvesting calafate fruit in Chile and Argentina, and it will take place in Torres del Paine, the heart of the Chilean Patagonia, serving as a showcase for brands both nationally and internationally.
Calafate Fest is on January 12, 13, and 14, 2024 at Estancia Mercedes. Tickets are already available for sale on the event’s official website
